Studio Photography Workshop 14 December 2015

This was the second of my planned Workshop days to gain more technical skills. Teresa, a fellow OCA student and I organised a day at Rhubarb & Custard studio, Eton and our tutor for the day was Neil Onslow, previously lecturer in photography at the University of West London.

Neil talked us through the equipment in the studio and explained the different kinds of lighting that are used in portraiture. We then spent the rest of the day practising these, using each other as models.

Here is a selection:

It was an enjoyable day and I came away with more confidence about, and less fear of, lighting, having learned to move the lights around and balance them according to the type of light. Neil also gave us plenty of useful resource material to take away with us. I already have use of an old flashgun and a continuous light (with muslin covered reflector) apart from a speedlite but we now have a set of two Bowens lights with stands plus various accessories.Additional I have acquired three a black/white background roll and three ‘scenic’ backgrounds – two landscape based and one of a grand mansion.
